Welcome to the Canadian School of Private Investigation and Security Ltd. and the beginning of your Basic Security Guard License Preparation course. As a security guard, Canadians from every walk of life rely on you to make them feel safe and secure. This is why it’s important to have a strong foundation and excellent skills within the security industry. You should know what you are expected to do as a professional security guard.
Every lesson in this course is laid out in a logical order and progression. This course will help you build a working knowledge of the security field. As you progress through this course, you will cover increasingly involved areas of knowledge, methods and techniques. To help make sure you get the most out of this course, there is a narration so that you can hear the information you’re learning as well as read it. An audio recording will automatically begin at the start of each new topic. While you can replay the recording as many times as you’d like, you won’t be able to skip the recording.
As you know already, Basic Security Guard License Preparation consists of 40 hours of training. That 40-hour schedule includes Emergency Level First Aid certification, which will not be online. You will have a number of options as to how you wish to complete your First Aid training if you haven’t done so already. Just remember that before you complete this course, you’ll be asked to provide us with a copy of a valid CPR certificate.
Throughout this course, you will also be assigned additional reading and some written exercises. You will be asked to complete exercises based on what you cover in this course and based on the additional materials.
These exercises will form an important part of your “learning journal”. A learning journal is the way you will convey to us that you have completed the necessary work. When you get there, you’ll be asked to forward your learning journal to us so that we can make sure you did the assigned work.
The full length of this course, including First Aid training, is 40 hours. The academic, or online portion of your studies will be about 33 hours. Be aware that you have a flexible time line as you work through this course. You can take as long as is reasonably necessary to finish your studies; we won’t rush you along. But you might also find that you are able to focus on multiple lessons fairly quickly. That will be up to you.
